VIOLENT CRIME SPREE WORST IN MEMORABLE HISTORY
Vallejo, CA – The Vallejo Police Officers’ Association (VPOA) regrets to shed light on one of the most violent crime spikes in recent memory that culminated in the shooting of a 10-year-old-child as well as a Vallejo High School employee. Our thoughts are with those impacted by the violence and we offers our condolences to the victims and their families.
So far in 2022, nearly 80 people have been struck by gunfire in the city. There have been 19 murders year-to-date, with five of those having occurred in the last 10-days. This is in addition to multiple side shows, armed robberies, and other violent crimes.
It is no secret that there has been a mass exodus of police officers, 911 dispatchers, and other support staff. The employees of the police department are deeply frustrated at their inability to provide acceptable service to the citizens of Vallejo.
The VPOA is concerned for the safety of the citizens as well as our officers. This community deserves better, but we cannot provide the level of service that every community deserves.
The VPOA urges all of those who live, work, or visit Vallejo to contact city leadership and demand accountability. Although the VPOA has remained committed to working together as a City of Vallejo team, the safety of this city falls on the shoulders of the VPD executive staff and city leaders who are responsible for hiring and retaining employees.
