As we close out November and forecast the end of 2021, we see that a number of officers have left the Vallejo Police Department in the recent weeks at an unprecedented rate (reminiscent of bankruptcy days). Low staffing continues to surpass what is critical for safety of the public and our officers. Additionally, it severely hampers our ability to provide basic police service. New officers have not been able to pass field training, experienced officers (of all ranks) have left to continue th...

Last week, two additional officers departed the Vallejo Police Department to continue their careers at a neighboring law enforcement agency. We would like to thank Officer Cesar Luengas and William Rhodes for their service to the Vallejo community. Both officers were sworn in by Chief Shawny Williams and leave us after less than two years of service. They were both recently featured on the Department’s social media platforms and their youthful enthusiasm will definitely b...
Today marks ten long years since the murder of Officer James L. Capoot in the line of duty. Officer Capoot was killed by a bank robber who Jim was attempting to apprehend. Officer Capoot responded to a report of a bank robbery on the east side of Vallejo. He observed a subject matching the description and gave chase. After a car and foot chase that ended in north Vallejo, the bank robber shot and killed Officer Capoot in the rear yard of a residence. The robber was later taken into custody...
We would like to extend our appreciation to Yani Osorio for her brief time of service at the Police Department. Yani was recently hired by the Chief of Police as one of the two Executive Secretaries in his office. She resigned abruptly last week. Yani is the second executive secretary to the Chief to leave the Department in the last 7 months. While not a member of the VPOA, she was part of the Vallejo Police family and we wish her the best of luck in her future endeavors.

A Historical Comparison of the Vallejo Police Department: 1991 to 2021

In fact, in 1991, the community po...
